Dominican Republic began its television service in 1952.

There were two TV stations: Radio Santo Domingo-TV, which operated channels 2,4,9, and Rahintel Television, channel 7.

Language/s

The main language of Dominican Republic is Spanish.

DOCTOR WHO IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Dominican Republic was the 29th country to screen Doctor Who, and the fifth in the Caribbean.

BBC Records

Dominican Republic is not listed in The Seventies, or The Handbook.

In DWM, Dominican Republic is identified in 10 story Archives: A, B, C, E, F, K, L, N, Q, R. The year of sale is given as 1966 and 1968.

The Eighties the Lost Chapters records a sale of 7 stories (by 10 February 1987) to Dominica. It is assumed that this is actually Dominican Reopublic rather than the small island nation of Dominicawhich did not have a television service.

Stories bought and broadcast

WILLIAM HARTNELL

Presumably, Dominican Republic purchased and aired the standard package of twelve stories, 56 episodes that played in other Spanish-language countries in the 1960s:

A An Unearthly Child 4
B The Daleks 7
C Inside the Spaceship 2
E The Keys of Marinus 6
F The Aztecs 4
G The Sensorites 6
J Planet of Giants 3
K The Dalek Invasion of Earth 6
L The Rescue 2
N The Web Planet 6
Q The Space Museum 4
R The Chase 6

If so, Dominican Republic therefore bought the standard package of GROUP A, B, C and D of the William Hartnell stories dubbed into Spanish.

The programme was supplied as 16mm black and white film prints with Spanish soundtracks.

TOM BAKER

Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago were sold a package of Tom Baker stories in late 1985 – as part of a larger package sold to nine Caribbean countries. Presumably Dominican Republic bought the same or a similar package of the same Baker stories on offer at the time.

. unknown .

The programme was supplied as NTSC colour video tapes with Spanish soundtracks.
